| Emmons Quarry Mineral List Uncle Tom Mountain, Greenwood, Oxford County, Maine (Closed to the General Public - Exclusive collecting access through Poland Mining Camps only!) Started in 1895 by a local farmer and landowner named Joseph Emmons, the initial work was probably due to gem aquamarine beryl found in the exposed ledge. Commercially worked for feldspar in the 1930's, the quarry has mainly been a site for the collector ever since. Gem tourmaline and pink cesian beryl were first reported in the 1930's and the location is noted for its complex nature and mineralization. Since the current mining activity started in 1990, all of the minerals on this list have been found, along with a few new minerals currently in the laboratory. Famous for its abundant micro-mineralizations, minerals of extraordinary size are found also. Some examples are, 1] a cesian beryl 27 inches (68 cm) in diameter, 2] perhamite to 10 mm, and 3] a pollucite mass of 3 tons.
