The MP2 Research Group -
The Maine Pegmatite Workshop is proud to have as its faculty, four of the World's leading Pegmatite experts. The Mineralogy, Pegmatology & Petrology Research Group (MP2 Research Group) from the University of New Orleans, will be presenting this week-long Workshop. The Group's Director and Director of Workshop Faculty is Dr. William “Skip” Simmons, and along with his three colleagues, the team has traveled the world studying pegmatites. They have authored numerous papers on the Mineralogy and science of Pegmatology, including the Workshop Course Textbook, Pegmatology.

The Workshop has also invited, and is fortunate to have, Frank C. Perham and Gary Freeman as Faculty members and to participate in the weeks events. Frank is a geologist and a Maine pegmatite miner for over 40 years. He has had direct experience with almost every exposed and/or mined pegmatite in the State of Maine. Gary Freeman is a miner in Maine, currently working full time at the Mount Mica pegmatite in Paris, Maine.

Additionally, we invite other local miners, collectors and en thusiasts to either deliver a talk or present certain specimens when the subject matter is important to the events of the week.

This diverse faculty will guide you through the intricacies of this geological structure and present information that is up to date and probably unavailable from any other sources.

Everyone is Faculty
Even you!

The Local Miners as Faculty!
At many of the quarry localities visited by the Workshop on your Field Trips, we will be instructed by the quarry miners about the specific geology, mineralogy and history of the locality. Their experience and expertise at these locations is invaluable to us and it is information not likely to be published. You will have access to them for any one-on-one direct questions and specific information that interests you. Additionally, we may have a number of miners giving you a classroom lecture to prepare you for the field trip to their mining location.
You are Faculty!
Additionally, you are encouraged to participate in open discussions about any topic which is of interest to you and to ask questions at any time during the week. We are counting upon you, the registrant, to interject at any time with comments, observations, ideas or questions, to help expand the Workshop's knowledge base and express your interest in any subject. Odds are that if you want to know something, someone else does also! Odds are that if you know something, someone else doesn't!
