Professor M P Ranjan is a designer and a member of the Faculty at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (NID), India. NID is India's premier design Institute, set up in 1961 by the Government of India, based on a report written by Charles and Ray Eames in 1958. This site contains papers and presentations by Prof M P Ranjan and many of these have been published or presented in design related conferences and publications over several years and these may not be easily accessible, hence they are offered here as a collection to help students and researchers interested in knowing about design in general and the work of the faculty member in particular and some insights of the Institute where he teaches in in India. Prof M P Ranjan has been teaching at NID since 1976 and over the years at NID he has been involved in many different activities and has handled many official responsibilities and headed many functions in an administrative capacity. He has created numerous courses and written many papers and books, some of which are made available at this site for research and to spread the message of design across numerous fields of application. He believes that design is a very powerful tool, which will influence change in as many as 230 sectors of the Indian economy if it is used at appropriate stages to address real needs in all these sectors. The views expressed at this site and in the papers contained herein are that of the author and these do not necessarily represent the views of the Institute. Design students and researchers may freely download and use copies on these papers for educational purposes by giving appropriate credits.
