Catching up
Ugh, I've been busy but plan to get
back on the blogging trail asap.
Anyway, as you may notice, there's a few changes
here. One, I've condensed some of the categories to make it less confusing. And
I went through and pruned away some of the more mundane blog entries that were
eating up space.
I've also moved this
address and kept the Podcasts at the old location but in a separate Blog so the
RSS feeds with the iTMS stopped getting hosed, the end result was episodes were
being dropped from the RSS
feeds.
Here's what's been going
on:
One, I got hit with the dreaded
dotmac bug that has plagued some users. Basically I started getting prompts that
my iDisk was filling up. I thought maybe it was a cache after working on the
Podcast blogs so that's when I started streamlining the
site.
Finally, I had to shut down all
together as I was missing about 500MB of space (I have the 1GB option since I
have a free dotmac account that I won in a lucky draw). Finally, after almost
two days and countless hours of trying to solve it, I came across reports on
Apple's discussion boards about the bug. I emailed Apple support about 36 hours,
the problem was fixed and my space was
back.
Then I had to go back and redo
the Backups and syncs and blogs I had deleted but it was better than being dead
in the water.
I know Apple doesn't
want to sound alarms but they should let people know that potential problems
like this can happen.
Other
changes:
Episode V of my Podcast is
available. Click on my sig on the right-hand side of the page to go directly to
it, or subscribe via the iTunes Music
Store.
I got a domain. Two, in fact.
randcast.com links directly to my Podcast page while randmiranda.com is my new
homepage.
I upgraded my pages. My
homepage was done using RapidWeaver and I improved the quality of my Work pages
with Macromedia Contribute. I think they both look pretty good. I like the
Contribute themes but it's a bit buggy. I doubt I'll pay for it once the trial
period is over (though I do like using
Flashpaper).
Rapidweaver isn't bad. A
little more variety but there's supposed to be a new version/upgrade coming out
after the Apple Paris Expo, so we'll see. I also have Site Studio after winning
a registration at macthemes.net. I haven't published anything with it but I plan
to.
Anyway, I didn't use godaddy,
Excuse my language, but to paraphrase Howard Stern and Jackie Martling: Fuck
godaddy.com.
After almost 4 days of
nothing, I finally heard back from them. To try and repurchase the domains, I
would need to fax copies of drivers' license or passport and something to show
my home address in the US is valid and other
garbage.
Instead, I went with Network
Solutions. I called them, explained the situation and had my domains purchased
and setup to forward the dotmac pages in less than half an
hour.
Sharon just got back from a
business trip in Bali and she did a Sound Seeing Tour and so I'll be setting
that up as a special edition Podcast over the weekend (I
hope).
Also, it appears that I'll also
be going to Zurich, Switzerland, when she goes there next month for another
work-related thingie. I've been to the airport in Zurich but not the city proper
so I'm looking forward to that.
We jumped on the iPod Nano bandwagon. They
are amazingly small and sexy. The black scratches quite easily but they are
designed in an amazing form factor. Nearly perfect.
Anything else? My fantasy football
teams ran into the Patriots. I think I went 1-3 for the first week.
Ouch!
