Geez, people are so freaking stupid! (updated)
Here, I was. All excited about the
new NFL Sunday Ticket. So, why am I writing this entry instead of watching some
football?
Update: Well, it took two more phone calls today
but I finally got my NFL package working. Of course, the live games are all
over. Still ...
---------
Well,
I'm doing this because at least one person and likely a number of ignorant
people working for StarHub Cable Services in Singapore have royally fucked me
over.
Last week, I called the cable
company about the new NFL service. I signed up for it (at a premium price of
about S$90) and on Saturday, I spent about an hour at the cable place exchanging
my old set for a new digital cable box, so I could access the NFL
package.
And, of course, I asked
several times about the NFL package and was assured that there would be no
problems. I even have it in writing on the service
form.
All weekend, I was excited about
finally watching more than the Sunday night and Monday night games. I bothered
Sharon about it and I even wrote down the games and viewing
times.

I haven't see that many games this
century so you can tell I was
excited.
1am rolls around and Sharon
was about to drift off but I kept her up so she could share in the first 15
minutes of my joy.
Instead, the stupid
TV screen showed a message saying: to subscribe to this channel, please call
1633.
WTF?!
Oh,
I thought. It wasn't 1am yet but a few minutes early so I surfed for a few
aimless minutes.
Back to the channel.
Same damn message.
So, I call 1633 and
after a lifetime of automated choices I finally get a person though she'll never
invent a cure for cancer.
I explain the
situation and it takes 5 times for her to grasp N-F-L. Then she keeps asking if
I have a different form that the one I have. I keep telling her
no.
She she she will try and check on
the situation and try to call me back in 15 minutes or so. I ask her what does
try mean? "Shouldn't you check on it, rather than try to check on it?" I ask.
The irony is lost.
Finally, she calls
back after 20 minutes and says she will try and expedite matters and she will
send an email to different departments trying to find out what happened and when
I can finally watch my damn football games. Of course, this will be done
sometime tomorrow at the earliest.
And,
in the large scheme of things, this is but a minor annoyance. And I've tried not
to curse in these blog entries figuring it doesn't add
anything.
But, if you excuse me for a
second ...
HOW FUCKING STUPID CAN
PEOPLE BE?! I'm awake at 2am in the goddamn morning bitching because some idiot
is too stupid to push a button correctly. A monkey could do
better.
FUCKING STARHUB CABLE! If they
didn't own a monopoly and were the only cable operator in Singapore and the only
life line away from here other than the Internet, I'd drop them with a damn loud
resounding thud.
End rant. I'm going to
bed and stew some more.
