Theory
Most music theory is just that "theory". You must be realistic. If you are always thinking about what to play, you won't have time to play it.

Learn the chords of the major scale, then the chords of the minor scales.

Check out what chords can be created over the harmonic and melodic minor scales.

  Scales
Major, Minor, Chromatic, semetric dimished
All should be played in the entire range of the saxophone with a metronome. When they are smooth then begin patterns.

Books of transcriptions
The Charlie Parker Omni Book
The Coltrane Book
The Joe Lovano Book

These are all great to teach younger fingers the feeling of jazz as played by masters. ]

Take them slow and get them right from the beginning.
