Xyloglyphs
This piece is a result of observing how often students
will attempt to leave their mark on school desks. Having
recently studied ancient Native American petroglyphs, I
speculated on what someone might carve on a desk if they
were in one of the Indian schools that were established
in the late 1800s. One of the other grad students bought
several desks at an auction at the University of Idaho
and challenged us to be creative, not unlike other group
works such as the painted bulls in Chicago or the angel
project in Los Angeles.
