White Buffalo
This was my first enviromental art work. It was part of a required graduate class at the University of Idaho in 1999. I spoke with Horace Axtell, a tribal elder of the Nez Perce, and received his blessing to create an image that reflects a sacred aspect of Native American culture. I created the image in a wheat field owned by Jack Flack, who was very co-operative and enthusiastic about my project. The most surprising thing was when the image returned after plowing and planting peas. Artists are always glad for "happy accidents".
