This is a help page for Mac users that want to take advantage of resources available on BYU campus. There are several sections below that address different issues. Please let me know how this page could be more helpful. Thanks!

Wireless Network Locations (a.k.a. AirPort / Wi-Fi)

There are certain buildings on campus where BYU's OIT Department provides wireless network connections at no charge for students and faculty. For information about using these networks, visit the Wireless Network Access page of the Office of IT. Their network is named "byuc0ug4rs". When you want to register, you will need to supply your Route Y login and password.

Signature Card Printers

There are several laser printers on BYU campus that are networked, allowing you to easily pay for printouts with a swipe of your BYU Signature Card. Printouts cost 7¢/page for B&W, 50¢/page in Color. All Open Access Labs and several other areas on campus have these printers. Once configured, you can utilize these printers from anywhere. You can send a print job from home, the offic, or a laptop and retrieve the print job at any of the networked printers.

In fact, the BYU OIT department has recently upgraded the method of connecting to these printers. Rather than setting up each printer individually through Printer Setup Utility, (as was required previously), you download a program that allows you to set up only one printer and have your print job come to you at whichever printer you scipe your card. Here are OIT's instructions for this process. You must download the Mac Popup installer and follow the installation instructions. When printing to an Open Access printer, a window will appear after clicking Print for specifying your Net ID (which is required, and must be the same as the Net ID associated with your ID card) and a name for the print job (which can be anything).

The OIT page has a list of printer locations where you can pick up a print job, along with any restrictions on when and to whom the printer is available.

If for some reason you still need to connect to a printer directly, the old instructions have been preserved. However, the list of printers has been eliminated from this page, since the same information is available elsewhere.

Mac Labs

There are a number of computer labs on campus that are either partially or totally composed of Apple computer. Some labs have older models with OS 9.x, others have newer Macs with OS 10.x, some have both. It should be easy enough to find one you like and with programs that will be useful for whatever task you're working on. To find out details about hours and lab rules and/or restrictions, click on the link after each lab.
