Liner Notes: Arabesque
- a design of intertwined floral and geometric figures
- a dance pose in ballet
- an ornate, whimsical musical composition
Arabesque is a musical journey inspired by another time and place: Cordoba, Spain during the Middle Ages, when Christians, Moslems, Jews and Celts lived together in relative peace and harmony for almost 700 years. In this city of flowing fountains and countless books and libraries, a culture of tolerance and love of learning was created that inspired the later Western Renaissance. Arabesque strives to paint a sonic reflection of the ideals embodied by this city, marrying Celtic, Arabic, and Judeo-Spanish melodies and musical forms, bringing to lilting Irish tunes the sensuous and evocative ornaments and intervals of the Middle East and Spain. |
