I finally posted some new tunes to my MySpace page.
It's four tunes from the upcoming CD. Actually, two "singles." Criminal w/After
the lullaby; Evil Genius w/Crazy Fool. Check them out ... and
enjoy!
"Criminal" in International Pop Overthrow CD compilation, KSCU IPO
podcast
Back in May, we played as part of Minneapolis's
first International Pop Overthrow festival at the Uptown bar. Well, it may have
been Mpls's first, but it's their tenth year. So we're especially happy to be
included on their CD sampler from this year's series. They selected "Criminal"
to include in the set. It's one of the featured tunes from our upcoming CD, to
be released late Fall, this year. Very cool!
Check them out. It's a great series that plays all
over the world.

The sampler is out now, though I'm not sure it's
available for sale. 66 tracks. Lots of great stuff on there.
Also, Criminal was featured in KSCU's Power Pop Show
podcast, as part of their IPO special. Man, we're everywhere! :-) Seriously
though, it means a lot to be singled out from the larger group. You
can download the entire broadcast
at http://www.midwestusergroup.org/KSCU_Podcasts.htm. Or just stop by their
MySpace page. http://www.myspace.com/powerpopshow.
"Criminal" is finally available! This
is a two-song "45" CD - Criminal w/ After The Lullaby - the first in a series
I'd like to release in this format for the next period of time. We're still
working on a great video for it, but in the time being you can get the 45 if
you'd like, either the physical CD or as downloads. (Both coming soon.)
"International Pop Overthrow" show, Thursday, May 3rd, at Uptown Bar.
10pm.
We're excited to be in the Minneapolis edition of
the International Pop Overthrow music festival. Coming up soon - Thursday May
3rd, at the Uptown Bar. We're on at 10pm. 20 minute set. Blink and you'll miss
us.
This is a very cool thing. Not a
contest. Just a pop music festival. (Not pop like Britney, pop like us,
Fountains of Wayne, Matthew Sweet etc.) The festival runs 4 nights - Wed-Sat -
all sets are 20 minutes with a 10-minute turn between bands. Bands are coming
from all around the region too. So you'll see a lot of great music each night.
They will be putting out a CD with up
to 70 of the best bands from IPOP festivals around the country. The disc will
come out later this Summer - and we'll be on it! So keep an ear out for that
too.
This show is also exciting for
us because it's our first show since November, and Steve's first since shoulder
surgery in January. We'll be playing a couple of new tunes and it'll be a
somewhat mellower set than usual to take it easy on Steve. And we should have
our first "45" release available for the first time there too. (So many exciting
things!)
So anyway, hope to see you
there. More details at the link below
...
Well, no trophy but not a bad song. :-) Here's
what I came up with for the RIFT song contest.
The topic was "public transportation."
I got thinking about how the NY Subway has always seemed to me the great
equalizer. Everyone there rides it. Mashes them all together in a way I think is
very healthy and alive.
So this is
from the perspective of an immigrant who's on the train and sort of sees it as
part of becoming an American.
Hey there. Guess I sort of dropped of the map for
a while. Sorry about that.
We had a
fantastic time at Summerfest, July 2nd, in Milwaukee. Really great. And now
we're on something of a hiatus while I focus on writing and recording. We still
have one show late September at Beaner's in Duluth. But other than that, I'm
going to try hard to get something done. :-) (Surprising how hard that can be.
Time slips by so fast.)
I hope you're
enjoying your Summer and that I have something new to share before too long.
(I'm very excited with some of the new material. Can't wait for you to hear
it.)
Finally! We have new T-shirts
available. These are very high quality ringer T's with a great new "Inspector"
design. Check them out in our store. And wear them with pride! They're going to
look great on you.
As mentioned below, we're one of 33 artists
selected for the US Cellular Emerging Artists Series at Milwaukee's
Summerfest.
They just announced
they're putting together a compilation CD featuring 11 of the 33 artists. This
CD will be distributed at Summerfest - tens of thousands of fans - as well as
through various promotions and at music industry events. We were excited
enough at the honor of being selected for the festival (we're playing Sunday,
July 2nd at 4:15 pm) but this is an incredible opportunity to turn it into
something much bigger.
So how do
they pick the 11, you ask? On-line voting. That's where you come
in. Visitors to the Summerfest website can vote for their favorite artist
once per day, per email address, one artist per ballot. The 11 artists with
the most votes at the end of the voting period - 11am central, this Friday, June
9th - will be included on the CD. So once again, it's all up to
you.
The bad news is the contest
started last Friday but I just found out about it today. The good news is
there's still plenty of time.
So
- if you have a moment, please click on the link http://www.sonicbids.com/voting/default.asp?poll_id=107
and cast your vote for us to be on the compilation. You can vote once every day
between now and Friday at 11 am. And feel free to pass it on to your friends and
fellow music fans too.
Where is the Heart has been selected
for The Rift DC Compilation Volume 1. Here's their comment: "David Levin is a
prime example of a great songwriter/musician in a city where most of the time,
the different, loud and noisy get more attention. Levin would have a hit if the
pop radio stations in this market played quality
music."
How cool is
that?!
60 artists submitted. 20 were
selected by a panel of writers and fans. You can read about it in the current
issue or on line at www.riftmagazine.com. You can listen to all the tracks
and/or get a free copy of the disc at their site too.
The Rift is a great Twin Cities music
magazine that is very supportive of the local music scene. You should definitely
check them out. And thank them for this great program.
Share this site with a friend or colleague whod like to hear about David Levin.
