© 2005 George L. Venable Medium: Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop CS3 Size of the original is 4200x4200 px. Mandalas or geometric forms have fascinated me for a long time. Just prior to creating this first of a series, my wife and I had visited Grand Canyon where I purchased a sweatshirt with a similar design that used a feather motif. This prompted me to begin exploring forms, compositions, and designing the following images I call Mandalas. All of them are examples of "What if!". What if I try this, stretch or rotate that, try a new way of lighting, or a new texture. How does this tool work, what does this filter do? "What if's" are the way you learn how all of the features of a software application work, and if you practice enough, then you will know what to do when faced with an illustrative challenge in the course of your work. Mandala 1 uses the feather motif also, but a far more stylized one which has more of a leaf shape than feather, and were it not for the small clue, one might not recognize the shape as a feather. Even so it has a Southwest Native American feel to it, such as Navajo. Something you might see on a bowl or basket. |
