"Joel" - Celebes Macaque - Macaca nigra

Private Collection - © 1981 George L. Venable Medium: Carbon pencil, gouache, & acrylics on frosted mylar. Size of the original is approximately 16x20 inches. "Joel" was a young Celebes macaque at the Oregon Regional Primate Research Center in Beaverton, Oregon. I had the opportunity to visit this Center on a visit to my good friend and illustrator Joel Ito. While there I took numerous rolls of film, and used several of the images as source for this illustration. I did this one for Joel, and named for him. I Don't know if he appreciated the naming or not, as he has never said one way or the other, but he sent me an original of Mongoose Lemurs which I have hanging in my office.
