Fruit Fly Project Work in progress - 2008/2009 Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS3 & CS4 Just like in the first image of this project, the images needed to be photographed in slices and compostied for clarity. In this images fewer slices were necessary than the previous specimen for two reasons. First because it is much larger thant the previous one, so the magnification isn't as great, and being lateral it does not have as much depth. We only took about 8 slices for this specimen. Also this image is different from the first in that it shows some detail images. This is something done in many of the species we are working on. In this case, a three quarter view of the head, showing the "face" of the specimen, and the tip of the ovipositor, showing the eversible membrane. This is a fascinating structure that is extruded when the female is depositing the eggs in the host plant. This membrane with the vicious looking hooks is normally not extruded, and probably acts as an anchor when in the egg laying process. |
