Fan Hitch Contributor Nominated for Writing Award
The Fan Hitch is delighted to announce that "The
Return" by David Matthews has been nominated by a panel of judges in
the category "National Club: newsletter: feature article" in the
2003 annual Dog Writers' Association of America (DWAA) writing competition.
The winner (there were three nominees) will be announced at the DWAA Awards
Banquet to be held on February 8th, 2004, in New York City. The results
will be reported in the next issue of The Fan Hitch.
David's beautifully written story is a stirring account of the disappearance
and return of a senior sled dog during a dangerous trip back to an Antarctic
base after many months in the field. It was published in Volume 5, number
2, March 2003 of The Fan Hitch.
This is the second time that a feature written for The Fan Hitch
by a British Antarctic Survey veteran has been nominated for a DWAA award.
Our hearty congratulations go out to David, who lives in Scotland.
