Learning = Building Meaning Dr. Patrick Faverty

Mark Twain once said, "If teaching was the same as telling, then we'd all be so smart we couldn't stand it."

Teaching isn't what happens in schools, learning is.

If learning is about doing then technology is the "great equalizer". Use of technology allows all students to participate at their own level, pace, and interest. Through using technology to produce multimedia projects and presentations based on the grade level and content standards, students build deeper meaning and significantly increase concept retention. Student access to current levels of technology also significantly increases their motivation because they can produce "real world" products at high quality levels.
If you are not yet a "technology using educator" it's time you became one!

Your brain needs to answer the two great questions of life: What the heck is going on here?, and, What is my role in it?

Brain compatible learning

We must understand how the brain learns in order to build powerful learning environments for children.
Learning is all about SENSORY INPUT! Students need prior knowledge to 'hook' new information to. Students need to build meaning FIRST!
