A Great Turn Out for Actor's Roundtable Saturday

We had a good sized house for the Actor's Round Table Saturday May 20th

Body: Let me start by extending my endless thanks to Mark Joy and Andrea Powell for attending and sharing with the actors present more than their business acumen and practical advice, but also their sense of spirit. It was a most uplifting and sincere workshop and a great chance for me, personally, to see a couple of friends. We had 33 people attend which I think is amazing!!

The Zarro Academy had refused to carry a post about this free workshop as they felt it was promoting a competitor so we missed having a few more of our friends from there. Even so, we had such a great mix of folks from Regent, ODU, TCC, Actors' Place, and a bunch of interested individuals... a nice cross section of the area's professional film actors and aspirants.

The moderated discussion led to many great questions. I hope to have a couple of short clips available here soon of what resulted. The "theme," if you will, was "Your Acting Career in So-Called Minor Markets." While much of the discussion was nuts and bolts, and each of us on the panel had different approaches to marketing, networking, promotion, etc. we shared a love for our lives in a place where we can live real lives. The appeal of large markets waned quickly for each of us, bringing us back here to the Southeast. Much of the conversation focused on keeping your spirits up and focusing on the journey rather than the destination. I think Mark put it.. to focus on the efforts and let go of the results... as the key to maintaining a good state of mind when auditioning all the time. One of many insights that I hope filled the notebooks and journals of attendees.

Don't forget... the Hampton Roads Chapter of the VA Actors' Forum meets Thursday June 8th, 7PM.

AND

The Actors' Place, Inc. will host another Open Saturday Workshop on July 22nd from 2-4 PM with regional headshot photographers in our studio for actors to come meet, browse their portfolios, and get pricing information from. Here's your chance to see them all in one place so you can get a feel for their work without having to to recon on them one by one.

August's roundtable is shaping up to be either an entertainment tax accountant or a casting director's round table. In either case you will see notices here and on the Actors' Place, Inc. online events calendar. Check www.BeAnActor.com for more details and easy links to our information.

I will try to post a couple video clips later of our roundtable discussion. Watch for them here. Be well.
