The basic concept behind this CD or DVD collection was giving the project producer the ability to have Big Live Drum Sounds on a tight budget. Personally, it drives me crazy to hear drum tracks pieced together sample by sample to create a semi-performance. A drum set is a single instrument, not a group of individual pieces. The spaces between the hits are as important as the hits themselves, and are completely missing from drum machine style programming. By using Drum Loop style performances, you get the essence of the spaces in addition to the hits to create the sound of a drum kit. Because it is a drum "kit".

This CD or DVD collection is a group of the most common played drum patterns, played in perfect (Beat Detective) time, all with different Hi Hat dynamics and with extra snare ghost notes thrown in. In addition, there are some funkier style filtered loops and some percussion loops thrown in for inspiration. EnGioia Drumming is not meant to replace your "typical" Drum Loop CDs, it is meant to enhance and reinforce them. There are also plenty of Drum fills and Single hits thrown in to complete the library. Played drum fills (rather than programmed) are a huge part of achieving realistic sounding drums.

What is included?

This library consists of Two Audio CDs (Wet & Dry versions) or One Data DVD (Wet & Dry versions) with 24bit AIFF files organized into seperate folders. Five common tempos were used to easily integrate into your productions. Obviously some stretching will need to be done to reach exact tempos.

Why Beat Detective?

Two reasons:

First, in order to give the user the greatest amount of flexibility, they need to combine different sections and patterns to create one performance. If one section is laying back while another is on top of the beat, there is no way to marry the two sections and still sound natural. The way this collection has been put together, you can literally grab a single bar from 8 different patterns and create your very own seamless 8 bar pattern. No nudging or futzing around is necessary. Just place each pattern on the bar. In fact, you can even swap patterns mid-bar. It's all on the beat.

Secondly, without other instruments playing along, there is no "right" way to play a beat. You can swing it literally a hundred different ways. There would be no easy way to organize the subtle nuances and feels and more importantly, the end user would have a nightmare of a time trying to figure out how to line things up. So this was the simple solution. Perfection.

Why Audio CD format & AIFF files instead of REX files or other popular sampler formats?

I really believe that this library is most useful if you use pieces of different sections rather than one two bar loop running through the whole song. The easiest way of working with these Drum Loop style performances is right in your DAW's tracks, and not using a sampler or REX Player (but feel free to make REX files or Sampler presets out of them).
