Consumer Reports, Fuel Economy List

I compiled a list of Consumer Reports mpg statistics and compared them to the
EPA combined figure for the specific car. Many of the models have several options
that may have a fairly significant impact on the mpg rating (auto, manual,
different engines)... so I only picked the CR tests in which the mpg was specified for a
specific model (such as the Toyota Echo manual, w/ base engine). Some models only had
one option for the engine and the transmission, which made it very easy for me. I obtained the EPA figures from either the manufacturer's web and/or www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm. One thing to note is that as the mpg figures are lower, then the percentage values are less accurate. .05 of 14 mpg is a higher number than .05 of 30. Also note that this comparison is not completely accurate since the conditions in the tests were probably not well isolated.

Something I found interesting was how the V6 and V4 Honda Accord models
fared... The V6 got 23 mpg in the tests, while the V4 got 24. The V4 got 80% of the
EPA mpg while the V6 obtained 91.1%.

Of this list, the Prius and the Toyota Sienna are the only Consumer Reports "Top Pick" vehicles. The Prius got double the mpg of cars in its class (midsize).

I have a big beef with this article... in order to get 37 mpg on the highway in a Prius you have to be going like 85 mph... Going at around 65-75 mph (with the traffic) my Prius gets 52-56 mpg, even with automatic air conditioning set to ~74 degrees, and with more than just me in the car (passengers, luggage).
