Public Art Project

In conjunction with the FPAC Open Studios and with funding from FPAC, I'm working on a public art piece called "Billboard". It consists of three 4' x 8' panels mounted 2' off the ground along the fence at the corner of Melcher and "A" Streets. This is the prior location of the Deli last known as Ziosso and formerly known as "The Postage Stamp", and now known as "the fence behind which motorcycles are parked". Though walking into Ziosso was like walking into a set from "The Bad Lieutenant", they served pretty good food and a mean breakfast sandwich. It's a storied history.

Upon the deli's closing Its walls became the prime postering spot in the 'hood. So, this can be seen a bit of a tribute to a tiny lost thing. In that spirit, much of the imagery consists of tiny lost things. Many are things I collect but, many are found by Paul Artz. Where I tend to be narrowly focused in my collecting, he's more democratic. It makes for a good collaboration.

The panels will be covered in a series of changing images. They'll be ranging from the absurd to oddly formal ending in a group of three from the "Icon" series. Where intent is observed I will refute it.

Apart from the final images, and a present placeholder, I'll be making them as I see where things are heading
. Ideas are being explored and discarded on a daily basis. The fluidity of the project gives a framework to coalesce ideas that have been floating around with no place to go.
