Tara Dancing in Brasilia 2006

This year we held our annual Brazilian Tara Dance Retreat in Terra Viva, a retreat Center outside of Brasilia, modern capitol of Brazil.

Capitol of Brazil, Brasilia is a city of magnificent, original architecture
But our destination was an hour outside the city down bumpy dirt roads
Terra Viva from the air - this community is run by Ananda Marga devotees
It was like entering a magic land
The buildings were brilliantly constructed, a mix of modern & native methods
We stayed in the chalets (on the right)
Myriangela, (center) made all the arrangements for the retreat
Monica was the most excellent translator
Prema was the Mystress of Ceremonies
Anahata gave excellent teachings and led the Sacred Music Ensemble
We first went to the Waterfall of the Great Mother to purify
A 20 minute walk down a country road, we found Lehua blossoms on the way
On a plateau, the retreat center was rimmed with deep valleys
The teaching room was enormous and marvelous
The hard part about it was trying to photograph its impact.
Wooden floors, rimmed with windows, the roof peaked
Early morning healing practices
Lots of time for hugs, Gisele and Anahata
The altar was well tended
The room was so big we were able to keep the center shrine intact all week
Josiane, of Porto Alegre, had a birthday, Theresa from Kauai made her a haku lei
Andre from Bahia provided the birthday candle
Marge, Myriangela & Leilah indulge in Yerba Mate, a ceremony from the South
Cassia from Belemadorns the ying/yang garden
A beautiful playground sits in the center of the chalet area
One day a group of red uniformed children played for an hour
They were from a school that the community sponsors.
Anahata & Marge led some of the children in some dances
The dining hall was surrounded by waterways and gardens
Beautiful tables and benches for outdoor meetings and eating
The head cook with Myriangela
The kitchen was immaculate
Fabulous vegetarian food
One night we ordered a special round of pizza
Two beautiful pools to choose from
Behind is a dry and wet sauna
This team continues the work on Tara Tames the 8 Fears
Prema & Monica leading the gang, Anahata keeping the melody on track
It may be a children's song but everyone enjoys singing and dancing along
Aldo, our protector of the south with Marly from Sao Paulo
Please go to Brasilia 2 for the rest of the story
