What is Home?

In OS X, home is a folder that is designed to contain the documents that you create.

What is a document ? A file that contains data; it needs an application to access it.

What is an application ? A software program designed to do some specific task(s).
Egs of applications: Appleworks, Mail, Address Book, Safari, Internet Explorer

What is a folder ? A holding place/location for documents and/or applications.
Egs. of folders: System Folder, Music, Pictures, Library, Home

How do you access home?

in the dock, click on the left-most icon (the one that looks like a happy Mac face)

the Finder window opens;

look for an icon that looks like a little house (this is the icon for Home; it will also have the name of your computer - usually some version of your own name)

click on the little house icon

you will see what is in your home folder

The home folder is the best place to store any documents that you have created, or someone has sent to you, that you would like to save. This can include pictures and music, as well as text documents.
