What is it?
- an application (i.e. software program)
- stored on your hard drive
- designed to access the World Wide Web
Examples of Web Browser
applications:
- Safari (designed by Apple)
- Internet Explorer (designed by Microsoft)
- Firefox (designed by the Mozilla organization)
- Netscape Navigator (Netscape Communications Corporation)
- and many others!
How do I get one?
- there is always (at least) one web browser included (free) when
you buy a computer
- additional/different web browsers can often be downloaded from
their maker's website
Is it the same as Google?
NO! NO! NO!
- Google is a "search engine"
- you can locate and run Google on any web browser
- Google's Canadian address is: www.google.ca
- if you type Google's address into the "address" window in any
browser and hit the Return button, you will be taken to Google's
location on the world wide web
- once there, you can use Google to "surf" the web, using keywords
- for more information on how to use Google, go to the PQMUG website, and you will
find more information on using Google
in the Tips/Tricks/Topics
location.
