Don't tell me vampires don't exist

Physics professor Costas Efthimlou of the University of Central Florida posted a paper in August 2006 trying to argue that zombies, vampires, and ghosts could not exist. I regret that I didn't see this prior to Hallowe'en, but it's still worth a fun read and refutation...

The central point of the section about vampires is that if vampires did exist, they would have turned every one of their victims into a vampire, so that even if they fed only once per month, the human population would have decreased to 0 by the 30th month after vampiric introduction.

What Efthimlou neglected to account for is that vampires don't turn every one of their victims into a new vampire. Most of their prey they kill in the process of feasting. They only turn people into vampires if they bleed them slightly, but don't feed completely.

Anyone want to take a stab at the argument about ghosts based on heat transfer and thermal equilibrium?

My father would be appalled that this is what physics has come to. On the other hand, I can see Ms Pope being interested in physics if they studied topics like this in her class...
