Such Great Emotional Heights

I just found out that Sam Beam, the singer/songwriter behind Iron & Wine, has a daughter in Sören's class at Waldorf... I was first introduced to Iron & Wine because their fantastic cover of the Postal Service's song, Such Great Heights, was in the Garden State soundtrack. Since then, I have also picked up Our Endless Numbered Days and the collaboration album with Calexico, In the Reins. The latter is what swung me into a fevered state of fandom, for both bands. It is incredibly beautiful. I haven't picked up tickets for the Stubb's show tomorrow night, but I am going...

Beam's wife was at the Waldorf first grade Hallowe'en party tonight, but he skipped it since he just got back into town from touring (and has another show tomorrow night). I felt like a tongue-tied fanboy when Ms Pope pointed out to me that they were married. I had read in the Chronicle that Beam had moved to Dripping Springs, but it never occurred to me that I would meet him (and, to be honest, I still haven't yet).

One other oddity -- their first-grade daughter, Ruth, is the spitting image of MoCo's daughter, Riley. They could be twins. Except that Ruth has six fingers on each hand...
