City of Sodomizing Gomorrhians

For this entry and the previous one, I have to apologize. My network connection got hosed last week while I was posting them, and my blogging software did not copy all the necessary files to the server. I had the choice of updating the xml files by hand or just re-posting. Since I am stealing borrowing WiFi signal from a nearby business, I decided to save time and just re-post and delete the old posts. The original date of this post should have been June 29 2005.

The Papal Consort and I arrived in Toronto last night, and our B&B is beautiful. Apparently, our top room floor would have been wonderful to see Pride pass by this last weekend. Eduardo El Dorado is staying here, too, but is in the basement of the hotel. His room is almost as charming as ours is, but, let's face it, is in the basement.

We ate in this completely boho restaurant, soya burgers and power shakes, and then headed off to a park to see Shakespeare in the Park. This is a bizarrely attractive house, set down in the middle of a neighborhood of row houses and duplexes:

I am used to Shakespeare in the Park being a relatively amateur, free event, so was surprised that we had to pay something like 20 Canadian dollars for a seat. But the theater was gorgeous. It is sponsored by Home Depot, and I wonder if the sponsorship is just money, or if they give materials. It was really pretty, under a large tent, but with an opening behind the stage so you can see out to the night sky behind the actors. And the cast was great. I don't know if this speaks volumes about the Shakespearean productions I have seen in the past, but this was, without a doubt, the best Shakespeare play I have ever seen.
It was Taming of the Shrew. The Papal Consort kind of got lost in his ditziness -- he said that he kind of followed the first act, but completely lost the storyline in the second. To give him credit, we were both exhausted from no sleep the night before and traveling, but still... Shakespeare!
