Happy Father's Day
I'm thinking today of my father, who died about
five years ago, right around Father's Day. How bad is it that I don't remember
the exact date?
I also want to extend a very
Happy Father's Day to Opie and Maverick (you like that, Disco? I didn't have a
nickname for your husband yet. Will that work?). And Beezer and Russell the
Realtor and cousin Dylan, here in Austin. But especially to Mr. Sexy Pants and
Uncle Jesse, who are having their very first Father's Day today.
I woke up this morning to coffee in bed and the
Sunday New York Times. Sören brought in my presents - a bike messenger bag
(Patagonia -- très cool!) and a book, James
Dean Died Here; The Locations of America's Pop culture Landmarks. JDDH
will, I expect, come to play a large inspirational force in future blog entries.
It is an encyclopedic volume describing places where events occurred that forged
our national psyche. Example, Vet's Memorial Stadium in Des Moines, where Ozzy
Osbourne bit the head off a live, stunned bat during the Blizzard of Oz
tour.
Ms. Pope also made breakfast this morning -- fakin'
bacon and blueberry-cornbread pancakes. Mmmmm. We would have been able to make
it to church this morning, I think, although a little late, but Sören
decided today was one of those days where, "...You know, you just don't feel
like being in public first thing in the morning?" I certainly do, dearheart. I
am feeling very suburban, but that means I may have the time this morning to
continue using the edger I bought at Home Depot yesterday (Black
& Decker Edge Hog!) or mow the lawn or wash the windows (which
desperately needs to happen!). Actually, when I told Ms Pope that I wanted to
wash the windows this weekend, she asked me if I was stressed out, because the
only times I take on cleaning projects like that is when I can't deal with my
life and have to escape via cleaning. For instance, the day we found out that
she was pregnant. :)
Anyway, Happy Father's Day to everyone!
