Make this self-watering container garden

By 2 roughneck storage containers, and 1 pond pot. Both can be purchased at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Cut one container the same hight as the pond pot.

Trace pond pot on bottom of container and cut 1/4 inch smaller.
Glue to bottom as you see it here. This helps hold the weight of the soil
and also acts as a wick supplying water to the roots of the plant.

Cut 2in pvc about 1” longer than bottom. Drill 1/2 holes on top side of pipes.

Mark hight of air pipes on both sides.
Drill or cut holes in both sides.
Wrap pipe with weed cloth or screening

After you have wraped Pipes place bottom with pond pot in bottom of container.
Install pipes through holes you made in sides as shown. Drill 1” hole in one corner of bottom container. Hole not shown but you will see the finished container and it should be clear what the hole is for and where to drill it.
Drill or cut 1 or 2 or 3 holes in line in top. Or cut out the recessed part of the top, the deep recessed, so all you have left is the outside 2 inches of the lid. You can then take some black plastic (from a lawn trash bag) stretch over top and place remaining lid over plastic to make a cover.

Take note of the fill tube. It goes all the way to the bottom water resivor. Cut an angle on bottom of tube.

Drill 3/8 hole through outer container and inner container, for overflow.

Fill container with soil, add bone meal and lime. Place 2 cups of fertilitzer on each side of plants. (one cup on each side) Carefull place lid on container, working plants through holes.
Move to a sunny location and fill bottom with water until it comes out the overflow hole.
Check water level every couple of days at first. As plants get bigger you may have to water every-other-day.

This was taken after 2 weeks. You will have to make some kind of supports as they grow.
You can grow any kind of veg. or flowers in these boxes. If you hook them up to a drip system you won’t have to worry about filling the water resivor.
