Norway, 2005

In October, 2005, I went to Norway for eight days (three for work, five for pleasure). It's a lovely country.

Bergen is a beautiful city, somewhat like Vancouver in its relation to the water
Everyone hikes on Sundays. I had some soup at the warming hut.
Light rain and fog didn't deter anyone.
Fall colors, waterfalls...
The guy looks like he's from 1955. Who wears a hat like that now?
Downtown Bergen, looking towards the hiking area.
Those buildings on the water are 800 years old, a UN Heritage Site.
I took a boat ride on a fjord.
This town is hardly changed in 600 years
Big boat, few tourists in October.
Do you herd sheep? I heard sheep.
I enjoyed the trip.
Looks like Half Dome, doesn't it?
The birds like the aquaculture area.
I stayed the night in tiny Flam.
This was the view out my window in the morning.
Breakfast: Jams on the left, fish on the right.
The Flam railway is spectacular.
I thought this sign was funny.
On the train, heading up the cliffs.
Sod-roofed house outside Oslo.
Astrid is on the right. The guys and I were on Astrid's PhD committee
Me and Astrid, after her "disputation." She did fine.
Astrid with her proud husband, Hakun.
Astrid and friends.
Astrid and family.
Lots of bikes at the Oslo train station.
Ski-roller-skates in an Oslo park.
Astrid and a very kind friend in a park that has lots of statues.
Here's one of a woman captured (guarded?) by a big lizard.
This might be my favorite...
...but this is great too.
