Airfix/Heller model kits on Artin 1/43 chassis.

·      Airfix/Heller makes some really easy to assemble and really nice looking 1/43 models. You can find these easily at any toy or hobby shops. I tend to use the Airfix brand name models because some come with the paints, specially when you buy their special 3 or 4 cars boxes, like the Le Mans 4 car set or the WRC 3 car set.

·      The main issue with these bodies is that they are truly 1/43 and the Artin chassis will not fit directly under the bodies, the wheelbase is usually too short for that. That means either building a chassis from scratch or cutting the existing chassis (and fit the front wheels in the model while adapting the remainder of the Artin Chassis to the model). I have tried both and the following pictures show this.

·      Le Mans 1989 Porsche 956: Chassis is scratch built using 1/8” black styrene from McMasterCarr. I used all other original Artin parts: guide pin, braids, motor, front and rear axles and wheels.

·      Le Mans 1989 Mercedes C9: Chassis is original Artin chassis cut right in front of the braids. Front axle is relocated on the model and chassis is then fitted.
