Artin 1:43: Silicon tires

Modifications to your Artin 1/43 rear wheels to be able to use HO silicon tires

A tip from “HoosierHustler”:

“For those of you who want to use silicone tires, here’s what you do. If you remember the old AFX HO Specialty cars, you know you can buy silicones that will fit these type of wheels. To make them fit on the Artin rear wheels, all you have to do is sand the middle of the Artin rims down to the size of the outside and inside of the rim. Then the tires slip right on, but you need to glue them because after a few good hot laps the tires will work off to the inside and outside of the rims. There you go gang, for those of you wanting to get these things hooking up!".

Here is the process:

Original stock Artin 1/43 wide tire and rim

take the tire off and mount the wheel on an axle:

Mount the axle in your dremel tool (or in power drill), rotate at low speed and using coarse grit sand paper, remove the center ridge of the rim. Finish up with fine grit san paper and you should have a wheel that looks like the picture below.

Mount the silicone slick on the cut down rim, and glue it with a couple of drops of CA glue paying attention to not put any glue on the outside of the tire or in the axle mounting hole.

and they hook up good too!
