Creating a Video from
Still Images
Using QuickTime Pro
The technique can be used to display student work, create an animation,
or a movie clip from still images.
A movie (slide show) can be made from a series of images in different
ways.
- Import JPEG stills into iMovie following the
directions above.
- Create an image sequence with QuickTimePro. The
complete version of QuickTime must be purchased ($29.95 from
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/). You will be furnished with a
registration number which is entered into the QuickTime settings
(Macintosh: Control Panels->QuickTime settings->Registration;
Windows: Settings->Control Panels->QuickTime->Registration)
Using QuickTime Pro to
Create an Image Sequence
Preparing the Images
- Place all of the images in a
separate folder.
- Name all of the images the
same name with sequential, not necessarily consecutive, numbers.
Example: p01.jpg, p02.jpg, p05.jpg, etc.
Creating the Movie
- From the File menu, select
Open Image Sequence.
- Navigate to the folder with
your images.
- Click on the first image.
Select the Speed of the
Images
- Select the speed for the image
movie.
(30 frames/sec is real time
video, 3-4 seconds/frame for a slide show)
- Experiment with the speed to
obtain the desired effect.
Save the Movie
- Save the movie in your folder
with the name waddle.mov
- Add music to your waddle.mov.
- Be certain to click Make
Movie
Self-contained.
Extension
- Take digital pictures with
your camera to illustrate a vocabulary word.
- Make a movie out of the
images. Save the movie (self-contained) file on your hard drive.
- Add music:
- Select a piece of music from a royalty-free CD or
from the Internet.
- Open the music in a new QuickTime window.
- Select All.
- Copy to the clipboard.
- Click on the image movie to make active.
- QTP v6, from the Edit menu, select ADD.
- Save the movie with a different name
as a self-contained file.
Adding Titles to Image
Sequences
- Copy the movie and paste in
front of the desired movie. You may then need to go to the Movie menu
and select Get Movie Properties. On the left side of the window, select
the track with the desired size. On the right side of the window,
select size and note dimensions. On the left side of the window, select
the track to be changed. On the right side of the window, select size
and Adjust. Move the red handles to achieve the desired size.
