Creating a Video from Still Images
Using QuickTime Pro

The technique can be used to display student work, create an animation, or a movie clip from still images.

A movie (slide show) can be made from a series of images in different ways.
  • Import JPEG stills into iMovie following the directions above.
  • Create an image sequence with QuickTimePro. The complete version of QuickTime must be purchased ($29.95 from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/). You will be furnished with a registration number which is entered into the QuickTime settings (Macintosh: Control Panels->QuickTime settings->Registration; Windows: Settings->Control Panels->QuickTime->Registration)

Using QuickTime Pro to Create an Image Sequence

Preparing the Images
  1. Place all of the images in a separate folder.
  2. Name all of the images the same name with sequential, not necessarily consecutive, numbers.
Example: p01.jpg, p02.jpg, p05.jpg, etc.
Creating the Movie
  1. From the File menu, select Open Image Sequence.
  2. Navigate to the folder with your images.
  3. Click on the first image.

Select the Speed of the Images
  1. Select the speed for the image movie.
    (30 frames/sec is real time video, 3-4 seconds/frame for a slide show)
  2. Experiment with the speed to obtain the desired effect.

Save the Movie
  1. Save the movie in your folder with the name waddle.mov
  2. Add music to your waddle.mov.
  3. Be certain to click Make Movie Self-contained.

 Extension
  1. Take digital pictures with your camera to illustrate a vocabulary word.
  2. Make a movie out of the images. Save the movie (self-contained) file on your hard drive.
  3. Add music:
  • Select a piece of music from a royalty-free CD or from the Internet.
  • Open the music in a new QuickTime window.
  • Select All.
  • Copy to the clipboard.
  • Click on the image movie to make active.
  • QTP v6, from the Edit menu, select ADD.
  1. Save the movie with a different name as a self-contained file.

Adding Titles to Image Sequences
  1. Copy the movie and paste in front of the desired movie. You may then need to go to the Movie menu and select Get Movie Properties. On the left side of the window, select the track with the desired size. On the right side of the window, select size and note dimensions. On the left side of the window, select the track to be changed. On the right side of the window, select size and Adjust. Move the red handles to achieve the desired size.
