Hello All,Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year. We're hoping 2006 is going to be a good year. We'll be doing our best to make it an enjoyable one.Altough all the pigs and piglets seem back in good health at last, I'm afraid our poor dog, Jaz, was diagnosed in early January to have bowel cancer. After an operation he's up and about again, but he's no longer the sprightly young dawg he was. So if you see a Dingo-like butter hound scrounging around during any of our Pig's Gigs, be nice to him, please. Due to the various uncertainties of the past couple of years, we admit we had let promotion of the band lag a bit. However, since the turn of the year Sue and Keith have been actively reminding club organiser's and promoters that Pig's Ear exists. The result has been that we now have quite a few bookings lined up for 2006. Please refer to the Gig Guide for more details of the various gigs, but I've included a short list below for convenience. Dangerous AgeNot only has Keith been out and about promoting Pig's Ear, but also he is performing on a more regular basis with the rock band 'Dangerous Age'. Click here to download a flyer. Two forthcoming dates are:
Cloak of MagicSue, as some may know, has been writing a variety of stories since about the age of five. Now we have the event that some of us have been waiting for, the publication of Sue's first novel! Hurrah! We're all really proud of this achievement and expect it to be the start of a new career. The book 'Cloak of Magic', is the first in a Science Fantasy series called 'Shaihen Heritage'. As you might expect, most Shaihens appreciate a song and a pint or two. The publication date is 28th February and Sue is holding a Book Launch Party on Saturday 25th February at the Edenbridge Bookshop in the High Street to make the day go off with a bang. Sue will appreciate a visit by friends of Pig's Ear for a chat and a glass of mead especially if you buy a copy! The book also will be available through Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk) and Authors On-line (www.authorsonline.co.uk) and from selected bookshops. You can learn more about the land of Shehaios and about the books, from Sue's new website at Shehaios.com. Download a flyer by clicking here. New Pig's GigsFebruary 26th (Sunday afternoon) at the Kentish Horse, Cow Lane, Markbeech, nr. Edenbridge, Kent. March 18th (Saturday evening) we'll be providing entertainment as Medieval Minstrels for the Warlords Annual Banquet. You have to be a member of the Warlords Medieval Re-enactment Group to participate in this event but I understand they always keen for new recruits (to replace those that fall in battle and are now being entertained in the Halls of Valhalla or something like that!). March 25th (Saturday evening) Pig's Ear have been invited to stage a concert onboard the Island Cruising Club's HQ ship, the MV Egremont, moored in Salcombe harbour, in Devon. April 23rd (Sunday afternoon) St.George's Day Celebrations at The Major York in Major York's Road, Tunbridge Wells. This is a new venue for us, so come along and enjoy an afternoon of English folk music to celebrate our national saint's day. 29th/30th April & 1st May (weekend) Rochester Sweeps Festival in Rochester, Kent. Once again, Doug Hudson has kindly asked us to participate in this, the greatest annual festival of Morris Dancing in the World. Pig's Ear will be appearing at The Eagle on Saturday afternoon, and on the stage outside the City Wall Winebar on Sunday around and after lunch. May 25th (Thursday evening) at The King's Head in Rochester High Street. June 26th (Monday evening) Croydon Folk Song Club at Ruskin House, 23 Coombe Road, Croydon. We're very pleased to be invited back to CFSC as this is the club we regard as our original home. They have some great guests, serve good, cheap real ale, and I recommend a visit any Monday evening. Ruskin House is only a short walk from East Croydon Station, so the club is not hard to get to. Folk Ale2nd/3rd/4th June (weekend) is this year's date for the Pig's Ear Kentish Horse Folk Ale in Cow Lane, our annual folk festival. (click here to see the details in the Gig Guide) We already have a brilliant set of artists lined-up for your entertainment and I gather that Dave the Pub is learning the melodeon, and needs all the encouragement he can get! You have been warned! SessionsFor anyone in the Eden Valley of West Kent or in East Sussex, the regular monthly sessions held at The Kentish Horse (on 2nd Sunday of each month) and at The Chafford Arms in Fordcombe (on the 4th Sunday of each month) are recommended. A good mix of musical styles in some excellent settings. Not forgetting, of course, the famous 'Elsie's' singers night at The Queen's Arms, Cowden Pound, on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, and the monthly guest nights there, hosted on Saturdays by Elsie's Band. eFolkMusicI'm pleased to announce that Pig's Ear has been accepted by eFolkMusic as a band whose music they are prepared to promote. This is great news and will help us make our CD recordings accessible to folk who live in the USA and Canada. eFolkMusic is a non-profitmaking organisation that promotes folk music of all styles, and pioneered the distribution of music in digital formats such as MP3. You can now purchase Pig's Ear CDs from eFolkMusic and you can download some tracks free of charge. Best regards for now, Grant. St.Clare's February 2006 Our latest gig dates can be found in the Gig Guide page on this website. We're now open for bookings for folk clubs and festivals. Please contact any of the band (contact details above) if you are interested.
