THE PHANTOM WEDDING
"The twins that fill in the abyss of not knowing, the double of presence and absence in the arcane ceremony of the unavoidable mirage, the desirable spark that leaves one breathless... The desperate gesture of the locksmith and his mercurical opening-device, who has no recourse but to reanimate the central animal consciousness, to discover, to invent that which resounds in the labyrinth of each breath, each murmur of an awareness held fast to the turning of the key of darkness and its own barely visible reflection." So begins the phrase of the artist to situate the nature of his vision into some understandable explication of his double image that bears the title: The Phantom Wedding. Of course he fails to enlighten us, and we are forced to explore along with him, just exactly what it is that we are seeing. Perhaps he comes close, but the mystery remains, and the Phantoms struggle to speak.... But do they struggle? And just what would they tell us if they were able to? Although, while it seems most apparent that what the artist intimates, is some form of wedding, perhaps even diabolical, always explicitely unknown, there is evidence of the Royal Wedding of the alchemists, and the intermingling, the fusion of light and dark, the melting of the bride and groom, and the blurring of distinctions between the two... from The Phantom Wedding Dialogue 2009 Albert Locke.
