i feel sick

Several students sneezed when they looked up at me, as I leaned over their computers, giving them valued advice. But they didn't mean anything bad by that- they just don't know better, I'm sure. Poor things.

Alison Bechdel visited yesterday. She's the one with her elbow on the tale. It's funny how I feel differently when I'm around people who do something like what I do, like Alison. She's good, and she's doing complicated things. I feel less of a freakish torsion of the gene pool and more like a true citizen and so I get cloyingly sentimental and make sure the class has an heirloom-quality commemorative photograph which they can treasure forever.

A young man named Brent Fagerberg is not in the picture because he was sick that day- but I neglected to put his name at the top with the others (as "absent"). I'm sorry, Brent. I didn't leave your name out because you sneezed on me. You didn't sneeze on me or at me, did you? No. It was someone else. I think.
