Friday - October 06, 2006the annals of pedagogy: 10.05What is the appropriate response when, as
you are rushing to the crowded theatre where you are to introduce a visiting
artist to his audience (and you are already a bit
en
retard!), a young red-headed man
shouts out, "Phoebe, I love
you!" Now, understand that this
young man was a student of yours last semester, and a good one. He is surrounded
by a bevy of other young people, whom you recognize as former students as
well.
Wednesday - October 04, 2006Thursday - September 07, 2006a student of mine,Warner
Slititious King
Washington II, has moved to New York, where he was promptly identified as one of
the Best Dressed Men on Campus by Playboy magazine.
Unfortunately, he still has not finished an assignment begun in one of my
classes.
Friday - June 09, 2006Wednesday - June 07, 2006what indignities I suffer!I myself can not understand the extent of the
damage without surmising what others might opine, and to do so is beyond the
scope of my desire.
Friday - April 21, 2006Thursday - April 20, 2006nowi'm a little scared of this stuff. the
thought of it makes me
sick.
Thursday - April 20, 2006as usuali'm supposed to be somewhere else right
now.
but earlier, i was where i was supposed to be... in a distillery, Tuesday - April 11, 2006Friday - February 10, 2006not good.i have a nearly unbearable pain that
has something to do with a frustrated drive to create, and it hurts physically,
even. my heart... the pain is in my heart. maybe i will die. i am a teacher.
why? to teach well is to give oneself to a receptive mind, but to give so much
leaves me empty and numb, without enough time to think or to feel or to express
what needs to be expressed. i will die if i cannot create, i will die and keep
on living. it's unbearably sad.
Tuesday - November 01, 2005Wednesday - October 19, 2005Wednesday - October 19, 2005Monday - October 03, 2005Monday - September 26, 2005if your teacher were gone for a week. I mean, if your teacher was gone a week.would you do your assignments?
Monday - September 19, 2005Friday - September 16, 2005well, you know, maybe I'm angry after all.e-mailed to me (source

Gloeckner on NPR Apparently Phoebe Gloeckner (A CHILD'S LIFE) was on 360 , an NPR magazine style show the other day. Reader 'JF' sent us the link and provided an analysis: I was listening to NPR last
night and on the program Studio 360, I was shocked to hear how mercilessly
Phoebe Gloeckner was treated. Of course, when one of the guests was Michael
Medved, you can be sure there will be some discussion of its “lack of
merits,” but as someone who respects her work as anything but
pornographic, I was troubled by how even the liberal skewing host and other
guest were rather dismissive, going so far as to suggest that publishing comics
in the public arena isn’t an appropriate place to work out one’s
personal issues. ?!?! Anyway, it’s a 10 minute segment towards the end of
this week’s program. There’s also a nice interview with Gloeckner
herself.
