Simplicity

Yes, it is feature number one of Conversation! Menu organisation respects Mac OS X standards - so you already know how to use it. The interface is simple but not restrictive, it gives you access to most IRC commands - No /commands to learn.

Single or Multiple window interface

Switch at any time between an iChat like or an iTunes like interface.

Easy to read conversation layout

The layout, font, spacing between lines, colors, etc have been carefully chosen to be the most readable. A unique color is given to each nickname so you know who is talking without even having to read his name.

Connect to multiple servers

The Favorite window is now organised hierachically, showing you which channel and buddy belongs to which server.

Unique Identity

You define your identity (nickname, user name...) once and for all in the preferences, you can then connect to new servers just by entering their address. Just like you would do to a connect to a web server.

Of course, you can override this identity by a server specific one if necessary.

Favorites

Servers, Channels, Users can be kept in your favorites so you can connect with a double click. Conversation even tells you if you buddies are on line and if your favorite channels are busy.

Open Recent

Conversation remember you recent connections to servers, channels and users. want to connect again quickly, look in the Open Recent menu.

Speech.

Conversation can read discussions as they happen, you can set a different voice for each channel or each user.

 

Icon badge for unread message - Red and Blue

Unread messages are displayed in the icon badge, like Mail. The badge is blue when messages were sent to a Channel, and turns red when a message has been sent directly to you. The Favorite list also display unread messages badges, for each channel.

Growl Notification

If you have Growl installed, Conversation will display notifications in transparent windows.

The "New" Window

Click on the + icon, or chose File / New... and the same window allow you to connect to a new server, a new channel, a new user, all in the same manner. In every case you have a searchable list to chose from. Want all servers in the UK, type UK in the search box.

Drag and drop everywhere

Users, channels and servers can be dragged all over the place. From the list to add to your favorites... From a channel to another to invite. You can also drag them onto your desktop to create a standard internet shortcut file. Drag them to Safari's bookmark bar and access you favorite channels in a click from your browser.

Click-able URLs

Conversation turns URLs into hyperlinks, so you can directly click on them to open them in your favorite browser. Channel names are also hyperlinked. Conversation also responds to standards irc:// URLs.

File Transfer

You can receive and send files using the de-facto DCC standard. Drag a file to the user icon to send.

Keychain

Server passwords and Channel keys are stored safely in Mac OS X keychain.

Advanced

Channel and XDCC File Search Engine

The "New" window now has 2 integrated search engines. One will allow you to search channels across multiple servers, one allow you to search files shared by XDCC. Enter your search text, select the channel or the file. Click connect and here you go.

XDCC and MP3 file offers

Uniquely to conversation, XDCC and MP3 file offers are displayed as red hyperlinks - one click and the file downloads.

A menu in the user drawer allow you to query a bot's MP3 or XDCC list.

Customisable Search box

Some file sharing channels can be searched for. Define the search command for that channel, and you can then use the rounded search box to send a search command. Each channel has its own search command.

Auto Connect and Auto Execute

You can set Servers and Channels to connect automatically when you launch Conversation. Click on the button to display a little gear on your favorite's icon.

You can set commands and text to be sent to a server, channel or user each time you connect to it. Use it for Nickserv and Chanserv authentication for example.

AppleScript

Add features to Conversation. Create an AppleScript and place it in Conversation's script folder. Immediately you can access this new command by the Script menu and as a /command. You can also add keyboard equivalent to you new commands.
