Kerry; The Moat

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Moat Farm; Kerry Motte; Moat Castle; Kerri; Ceri

In the community of Kerry. In the historic county of Montgomeryshire (Modern authority of Powys, preserved county of Powys).

Built by Madog ap Idnerth around 1135, to command the important ancient track along the Ceri Ridge - countering the power of the Mortimers in Montgomeryshire. Motte 4.3m high on west and 9.5m high on east with a diameter of 10.7m (top). The motte has a counterscarp on all but the north-west side. The kidney shaped bailey 38mx24m lies to the west and is defined by a scarp. The Ceri Ridge was an important track, running parallel to the Severn in mid Wales.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
