The Gatehouse website record for Langstone Court Motte

In the community of Langstone. In the historic county of Monmouthshire (Modern authority of Newport, preserved county of Gwent).

Remains of a ditched and counterscarped sub-rectangular mound, c.27m E-W by 23m, removed on the NW by recent road construction. Excavation, 1964, demonstrated that the mound summit had been defined by a masonry curtain, or wall. Occupation appears to have extended over C13-C15. It is thought that the counterscarp, N of the motte, is a C16 feature and re-use/construction of the motte is envisioned in this period. A bailey may have been located to the E, within an area of terracing.
Phillips writes 'it is suggested that the motte was a later construction, probably motivated by land tenure and agricultural holdings.'.
