In 1318 July 26, Ricardus de Luches (Sir Richard de Louches) was granted, by Edward II, (In year 12 of his reign) a Royal licence to crenellate Chiselhampton (Camoys Court)

"Licence for Richard de Luches to crenellate his dwelling place (mansum) of Chiselhampton, eo. Oxford."

(In fact, the original source given is usually a transcription/translation of what are precious medieval documents not readily availably. It should be noted that these transcription/translations often date to the nineteenth or early twentieth centuries and that unwitting bias of transcribers may affect the translation. Care should also be taken to avoid giving modern meaning to the medieval use of certain stock words and terms. Licentia is best translated as 'freedom to' not 'permission'.)

Richard de Louches

Richard de Louches was a member of a widespread family which held lands in both Oxfordshire and Berkshire. He married Elena Wace, daughter of William and Agnes Wace. He was returned as one of the lords of Great Milton at the inquest of 1316 and was granted free warren in 1318, but died before 1327 (VCH Oxford Vol7 p117-)
