Beaupre Hall

In the civil parish of Outwell. In the historic county of Norfolk (Modern Authority of Norfolk, 1974 county of Norfolk).

Possible fortified house suggested by Roger Wilson.
A modern bungalow stands on the site of a late medieval great house. The great house, which is now demolished had a turretted gatehouse, dovecote and chapel. Photographs show that some remains survived into the 1960s. (Norfolk HER)
Beaupre Hall was built by Nicholas de Baupre in the first half of C16. The hall ceased to be a family residence in about 1939 when it was taken over as a military base by the RAF. After the war the hall drifted into disrepair and in 1960 an attempt was made tp preserve at least the Gate Towers for posterity. However, in 1966, when the rest of the hall was demolished, the gatehouse became unsafe and it too was destroyed. The Hall and outbuildings have now been demolished and their sites built over. The Hall spent several decades in ruins with much concern for its future but neither the National Trust or the Ministry of Works would take it into care.
