The Gatehouse website record for Wendover Castle Ditches

In the civil parish of Wendover. In the historic county of Buckinghamshire (Modern Authority of Buckinghamshire, 1974 county of Buckinghamshire).

Possible location of medieval motte suggested from local tradition. A 1620 map shows a roughly circular field called 'Castle Ditches' with a possible mound in its centre. Exact location is unclear but area built over. The location appears distant from medieval settlement but beside road. If this was a castle it may well have been been outside Wendover manor and to have been deliberately placed on the manor edge for some local political/status purpose (as with Stafford Castle). However this is an untypical location for a castle, the evidence is weak and may represent a lost barrow or other such feature and this must be considered a doubtful site.
