Langley Marish royal manor

In the civil parish of Wexham. In the historic county of Buckinghamshire (Modern Authority of Buckinghamshire, 1974 county of Buckinghamshire).

This site has been described as a;
Palace.
  Confidence: It is probable that this site was a medieval fortification or palace.   Nothing visible remains.
Royal manor for most of C14 and C15, mainly held by queens in dower. Was moated. Thompson records this as a residential manor of the Archbishop of Canterbury but I can find no evidence to support this. The descent of the manor is recorded in the VCH.
The first known reference to Langley park appears in 1202 when King John granted Richard Mountfichet 100 deer to restock the park. The manor was granted to Christine de Marisco in 1285 by Edward I and the name, De Mariscoll, became standardised to Langley Marsh. The park was mentioned in a grant by Richard II in 1483. Catherine of Aragon lived here in the early C16 and in 1551 the park was given by Edward VI to his sister, Princess Elizabeth. In 1603 the first map appears showing various woodland enclosures with extensive areas of 'Laune'. (Bucks HER)
The Ordnance Survey Map Grid Reference is TQ009816
