The Gatehouse website record for Yoxall Town Hill

In the civil parish of Yoxall. In the historic county of Staffordshire (Modern Authority of Staffordshire, 1974 county of Staffordshire).

Salter describes this as "Damaged moat by the bridge may go back to C13 when William Ferrers, Earl of Derby gave land to the clerk Roger de Yoxall."
The substantial earthwork remains of a rectangular moated, which comprises of a large platform bounded by an impressively deep ditch to the north and east sides and a mill pond to the west. The moated site is thought to have been the seat of the De Yoxall family until the fourteenth century. The island of the moat is now occupied by a nineteenth century house and its gardens. (Staffs. I found a roughly circular enclosure, 50m diameter, with a dry v-shaped ditch evidence for motte unclear because of later rebuilding within the enclosure and garden landscaping but mound at rear of house may be eroded motte. Gardeners on the site reported finds of considerable amounts of cattle bones.
