Weston Turville Manor Farm

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Weston Turvill; Hide

In the civil parish of Weston Turville. In the historic county of Buckinghamshire (Modern Authority of Buckinghamshire, 1974 county of Buckinghamshire).

This site has been described as a;
Fortified Manor House.
  Confidence: It is doubtful that this site was a medieval fortification or palace.   Cropmarks/slight earthworks remains.
Remains of a medieval moat with traces of a rampart and outer bank. The farmhouse mainly dates from the early C19 but contains a late C15 timber framed hall within the east wing. The house may have been built by Sir Henry Colet who bought the manor in 1483/4. It was altered in C16 and C17. it has been argued that this may be the site of a previous house for which a licence to crenellate was granted in 1334, however it is perhaps more likely that this licence refers to a motte and bailey in the area; the Manor Farmhouse site being the manor house of the sub manor of Hide, rather than that of John de Molyns noted in the licence. (PastScape)
A sub manor, held for half a knight fee, is unlikely to seriously fortified in this area and even symbolic fortifications would have most probably been subdued.
This is a Grade 2* listed building protected by law*. (Images of England number 42922)
