Phil's Simple Mandolin Hanger
Below is a simple and rough plan I made for a mandolin/instrument
holder for shelves and/or tables.
It's cheap and easy to build. Parts are
2 small angle braces - about 2" in size
1 wall mounting tool holder
1 hunk of 1x4 hardwood (plan below incorrectly labels wood as 1x2)
4 wood screws
1 roll electrical tape or 1 can of "liquid tape".
In the diagram, black=hardware, light gray=tape, blue=instrument
outline.
Cheesy photos below diagram illustrate further.
Using screws, mount the hardware. The tool holder should already
have a rubber coating on it. After mounting the braces, tape them with
the rubber tape or, before mounting, dip them in "liquid tape" - a
rubberized coating for insulating, let dry, then mount. Use rubber tape
or "liquid tape" on end of tail end of hardwood. The tape will help
keep the holder from moving about once in place. Once the instrument is
place in the "holder" the weight will keep it in place.
I've used this for a couple of years now and had no problems with
it failing. Use at your own risk. It usually lives on my living room
bookshelf where I can put my mando up safely in a hurry, if I don't
have my case in front of me, and a variety of other reasons.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ
If you like this design and decide to build more than one of
these - especially if you make these to sell or give to others, please
consider this "shareware" and send a $5.00 donation (or something
reasonable to the cost of materials and labor) per hanger to
