VOLCANO
TRAIL
We stroll the short Devastation Trail to
see the lava
pebbles dropped by the 1959 eruption of
Kilauea Iki.

Little plants are making a comeback.

We also find lush vegetation where the lava
did not fall.

The trail ends with a view of the Kilauea
Iki Crater.

We also want to visit the Thurston Lava
Tube, but rain is now
falling, Phil's knee hurts, and the lights
are out in the tube.
We look down on the green valley that leads
to the Lava Tube.
This is certainly a land of contrasts.
