Policy Issues:
County Board Size

I support a future review of board size and structure, but at this time I recommend that we keep the board at twenty-eight members.

The work of the board gets done in committees. With fewer members and fewer committees even less review of critical issues than occurs now. Furthermore, and most importantly to tax payers, some studies indicate smaller board sizes actually increase government spending.

The myth is a smaller board will lead to lower spending, when the opposite might occur.

The real problem isn't board size, it is board politics. We need more board members focused on the issues, and less on political antics. And the board needs to do serious research on projects, rather than have knee jerk reactions to current events.
