Muang Sing in far northwestern Laos is a fascinating town and in this gallery I feature photos of Tai Dam women and their weaving

Heading north from LP we saw this large group of Lao planting rice

Mountain rice requires constant weeding, but I think it tastes better than paddy

More shots of weeding mountain rice

The Lao are so easy to smile, even when working hard

We were amazed at the blackened roofs in this Akha village

We stayed at the Muang Sing guest house. The BEST!!!

Bill wasn't too sure about the woman washing dishes from the restaurant...

There's a rich ethnic mix in the early morning at the market

Market scene

Two Akha girls selling bamboo shoots. I love their expressions...

The Tai Dam women can be overzealous in their selling of their cotton scarves

Some people want the Tai Dam women to only sell at little stands like this...

This Hmong woman wanted to sell this paj ntaub and I ended up buying it.

It is truly a work of art and I feel it was hard for her to sell it...

Tim was proud of this little paj ntaub he bought from this friendly lady

Khou, Xong and Matt interviewing a Hmong woman at the guest house

I bought this strip of paj ntaub squares. Exquisitely detailed embroidery

Portrait of two Tai Dam girls after I bought some scarves from them

On a previous trip I had contracted with this young woman and her sister to

weave 100 naturally dyed cotton scarves. I think they're gorgeous/so does group

Brother and sister of the young woman I bought the scarves from

A group of monklets at the wat across from my weaver's house

Three of the monklets. Very friendly and fun to chat with

Two young Tai Dam girls coming by to check out our group

Spinning cotton yarn

Tai Dam woman weaving naturally dyed cotton fabric to be sold as scarves

This Tai Dam woman is weaving scarves using chemically dyed cotton yarn

I like the baby cradles suspended from the rafters of the their homes

I bought this beautiful scarf from this mother and daughter

Do I have a story I could tell about these Tai Dam women. They know me well...
