Hunting wild animals has been a way of life for the Lao and especially the Hmong and on some roads you can find wildlife for sale

Hmong man along side road with wild bird he shot for sale

Our van and a bus stopped to check out the wildlife available for sale

This woman ended up buying some of these squirrels

This man was buying wildlife for his parents-in-law, a prized gift

Some of these birds were still alive...

I've only seen as much wildlife for sale between Luang Prabang and Muang Sing

It's teeth pulled out so it couldn't bite and be sold alive for its blood...

These flying squirrels are amazing. I didn't imagine they were so big

Yes, barking deer meat is delicious, but it is also an endangered animal in Laos

Stoppping for a bathroom break and also a good chance to take some photos

Planting and maintaining mountain rice is difficult work

Back in the lowlands and I liked the yellows and greens of the rice paddies

Tia holding the umbrella in the rain so I could photograph the rice fields

An artistic perspective of Tia holding the umbrella for me
